ジーコの言葉なんかは、 "It was a tough game..... バット we earned three valuable points." 下のに単語訳をふった英語ニュース → こちら (別窓) (* 一文づつ改行) Japan needed an own goal to beat Bahrain 1-0 in a crunch World Cup qualifying match at Saitama Stadium on March 30. Despite dominating the game, apan's lack of finishing firepower up front was frustrating. Coupled with its loss to Iran on March 25, the inability to score offered little inspiration to fans. Japan controlled the game in front of a sell-out crowd of 62,000 but failed to convert its dominance into goals. It took a sloppy attempted clearance in the 71st minute by Bahrain playmaker Mohamed Salmeen to give Japan its precious victory. Salmeen tried to kick the ball away from in front of the Bahrain goal mouth for a corner, but succeeded only in finding the corner of his own net. Saitama Stadium proved lucky for manager Zico and his men once again after last-gasp victories over Oman and North Korea at the same venue in earlier qualifying games. A relieved Zico said after the match, "It was a tough game but we earned three valuable points. I encouraged them to keep going throughout the game, and now we must continue winning match by match." The victory lifted Japan into second place in Group B with six points, one point behind leader Iran, which beat North Korea 2-0 away in the day's other match. Japan next travels to Bahrain for the reverse encounter on June 3.
