Superficial Treatemt of Serious Issues
What the hell kind of a name is Igby ? "Igby Goes Down " is witty, ironic & devestaing all at the same time. It does share some similarities with "Cathcher in the Rye" but it definietely has its own identity at the same time... Some of the lines from the movie are simply classic. You'll laugh but at the same time you'll feel and overwhelming sadness. Kiernan Culkin's performance is amazing.. YOU must see this movie. Vaguely like "American Beauty" in its impulse to be both darkly funny & terribly serious.. .."Igby Goes Down " is the story of a boy ( .. Who, after getting kicked out of every school on the Eastern Seaboard, and running away from a few more, winds up in NYC, AWOL from military school and living in a loft with his godfather's junkie mistress. Wow !!... That sounds bleak. The odd thing, is that it's not. While the cast of characters that surrounds Igby are terribly dysfunctional in ways far too numerous to list.. ...(cold manipulative older brother, selfabsorbed terminally ill mother, smarmy godfather, the choreographer who doesn't dance and the artist who doesn't make art, the nymphomaniac college student, Igby's severely mentally ill father)..... .. He has a decent enough perspective on them to understand that life shouldn't perhaps be this way, but it's what he's got to work with. Igby is, in many ways, the Only Adult in the film. 【Kieran Culkin】Igby Goes Down【Claire Danes】 Funny, Witty, Dark Comedy That's Just Right This movie is a black comedy on the surface only. There's no denying some of the characters are jerks and there are some pretty bleak scenes. Also, it's amazing to watch Sarandon's character be such a witch. But it's such a good performance. I'll be wrestling with her death bed revelation to Ibgy for quite some time... At first I interpreted it as telling him something he needed to know, and that her witchy behavior was really her being the best parent she could (tough ), giving her children not what they wanted or needed but what she had to give... But of late I'm open to the idea that it's simply one last dig. I'm going to wrestling with that for a while...Still, all that being said, by the end, and upon reflection... ...I found this at times prickly movie strangely tender on the inside. I will see it again, maybe even in the theaters. Good things come to obsessive-compulsives who fixate.. Ryan Phillipe, the ghost of Holden Caufield [maybe] お気に入りの記事を「いいね!」で応援しよう
