This movie is based on a true story , however, I never knew about it.
This movie was an in-depth look at the modern working mother.
Not only does it address the issue of single parenting , it also explores the ethics of the legal system..
.. and how one hard working & caring person can make a difference in this cruel world.

Julia Roberts is well cast as the feisty, thrice divorced working mom who uncovers a big, big pollution problem in a California town.
Her character is extremely well developed, (in more ways than one ) and I found myself rooting for her and her determination to help hundreds of people being poisoned by a huge corporation.
There is adult humor, and adult language but well within the context of the story.
You truly believe that Julia is Erin.
The story is well presented, moving, and touches on many topics that will appeal to both men & women.!!
You can truly relate to this single mom trying to work and raise her children she truly loves & worries about...
I admired her drive, her straightforwardness, and her moxie.
The stories of the families affected by the corporate polluters are moving and Erin's amazing ability to recall each and every detail about them is astonishing.
Throughout our viewing I kept thinking about the real Erin Brockovich and what a strong, smart, and sassy woman she must be.

The Big Bad corporate Monster's got a Virus

Bravo to all concerned with the making of this movie.
"Erin Borckovich " is the story of a single mom who takes on the big corporation.
This story is strictly Hollywood.
And yet the film rises above it.
Due to great craftsmanship on all sides, this manages to just become an out and out fantastic film.
Julia Roberts performance is outstanding.
In Erin, she creates a woman that everybody in America would like to be, but also somebody we all believe we can be...
Her incredibly engaging character is such a center for this film, we can't help but fall in with her.

The rest of the performances fill out the world with more realism & power.
Albert Finney as Ed the lawyer, nearing retirement who feels content with his life, but maybe not satisfied...
Aaron Eckhart, in an incredible departure, gives us the soulful everyman who may not be pretty, but he's real.
Steven Soderbergh & Susannah Grant present the story with an economic touch , never giving us any more than we need.
They refuse to hold our hands and walk us through the story.
In addition, they never force an emotion on us, they let all develop naturally.
This makes us feel the emotions of the story without any touch of manipulation.
It is an admirable feat.


Even the production design in this film works.
Every location rings of realism.
Erin lives in a house with clamshell lampshades and cockroaches and macaroni and cheese..
Ed's law office has drab vertical blinds and faux wood paneling.
The costume design is just superb, bringing us an Erin who, through her street smarts , knows full well she has to rely on her looks and she works them.
The only con at all would be the language, but there isn't that much, and if you can overlook that, you'll find a gr8 movie.
Go see it. It will be worth your trip.
Overall, I was thoroughly entranced by the emotional appeals and plot twists that could be found in this film.
Therefore, I strongly recommend this movie.
In the end, this leaves us with that fantastic Hollywood feeling without ever lying to us.
One of the best films you'll see this year, I guarantee it.
