The Gift is, at first glance, a murder mystery...
The Gift is rated "R" for good reason...
It is not appropriate for children at all, for any reason...
There is violence, sexuality, bad language, nudity.
If you enjoy thriller/horror genre , this movie is for you.
I personally think of it as more of a thriller, as I don't care for horror.
There is bloodshed, so you may elect to hide your face, close your eyes as I did (as needed).

I can really say that this film really gets into the mystery & beauty of the supernatural.
The movie is excellent.
The cast performs well together and it is one of the main reasons the movie works so well.
Blanchett is outstanding and delivers an eerie performance as the haunted psychic.
The plot is basically a murder mystery and isn't something so original or anything but it is really well done.

The Gift, a Thriller full of Suspense & Surprises..

Cate Blanchett as "Annie " does a phenomenal job as a tarot card reading widow of 3 young children.
Her husband had died in a work-related accident, so she receives his social security..
.. and her only additional income is by "donations " from her card reading.
She is a struggling Mom, sometimes so drained that it is difficult to give her sons what they need emotionally.
Some of the people in the town see her as a fortune teller or a witch , and others are in awe of her talents.!!
"The Gift " takes place in a small Alabama town sometime in the 1950's.

The Gift of a Psychic Thriller
Annie is harassed and threatened by the town redneck, wife- beater (Keanu Reeves).
He is terrific as this horrible, hateful person.
You learn to hate him.!!
His pathetic wife is played by Hilary Swank.

One of the local beauties, Jessica (Katie Holmes) , daughter of one of the town's wealthiest members disappears.
Some of you men will enjoy her topless scene , which is done in reasonably good taste, and she is truly beautiful.
At any rate, it appears that Keanu Reeves knows what happened to her.
He has scratch marks on his arm (he claims it is a cat scratch ), he is violent, and he was in fact having an affair with Jessica.

Annie is asked to help uncover the mystery.
She has visions about what transpired.
This "Gift " that she has is truly frightening to her, and calling it a gift is questionable.

Sam Raimi takes you on a journey of twists & turns.!!
Just when you know you know the answers, you are again questioning "who done it".

The movie is well directed.
The whole cast did a gr8 job and I didn't see any bad acting in this movie.
Normally, there is at least one person in every movie who is bad, not this one though.!!
The only complaint I have is Hilary Swanks hair, it looks like crap.
I promise you, this movie will keep you until the last scence.!!
You will not be disappointed.
This movie was reminiscent of Sixth Sense, yet I disliked Sixth Sense..
.. and Truly enjoyed The Gift...
