★★★★★Funky Visuals, Oddball Sense of Humor..
More Pure Style than any Movie in some time "CQ" (pronounced "Seek You") is a film about a young film editor in the late 60s/early 70s who gets the job to direct an action, sci-fi film after two directors get the boot. Along the way, he is forced to compromise himself with the vision of his arrogant producer and his desire to make his own personal little movie while falling for the film’s star. Written & directed by Roman Coppola, the film is that is a part comedy, part homage, and part satire to the film industry while paying tribute to the works of Roger Vadim & Mario Bava. With a diverse cast that includes such European film legends as John Phillip Law, Giancarlo Giannini, and Gerard Depardieu along with Italian film veteran Massimo Ghini, Silvio Muccino... Though the movie only makes a cursory connection to its title, in the grander scheme (that of being Roman Coppola making your first movie ) it’s a title that gives you a little wink. What really makes the movie interesting & entertaining, is that though it is riddled with homage, and is thus a treat for cinemaphiles... ... Its also put together in such a way as to include those who aren’t aware of the references. While there is much more here for those who understand the "in jokes " , the movie is also something that can be enjoyed by those who don't. 【Angela Lindvall】CQ【Dean Stockwell】 Coppola's Kid Hits a Solid Double.. "CQ " is expressive, wildly entertaining, and as good a look at a period of cinema as you’re going to get. Roman Coppola may have had a lot of help in making this (and he did).. .. but whether the production design is pure genius because people already famous for such things were on board (and it is).. .. or the soundtrack fits beautifully because there were lots of suggestions about how to use it (and there probably were), the final product is something that stands as being all Roman Coppola's . Just as the final version of "Codename Dragonfly " becomes something that is wholly Paul's.!! There are many things that impress me about Francis Ford Coppola. The one is that he has returned some dignity to the idea of the entertainment dynasty. Both Roman & Sofia have put out movies that, whatever else they may be, are intelligent, meaningful films. In many ways, "CQ " is a messy flick : underwritten characters abound, a few scenes come in completely from left field, and it's often difficult to tell whether we're celebrating art or pretense. But "CQ " is also a colorful & fascinating little movie, one that may appeal most to hardcore cineastes and Francophiles. Those looking for a more "traditional " movie about filmmaking may leave "CQ " scratching their heads.. .. but the good easily outweighs the bad and it's always nice to see a first-time director deliver something compelling. Speaking as only one movie addict, I was fascinated by this quirky look at French filmmaking in the late 60s... Roman Coppola may never become the filmmaker his Dad was, but heck few filmmakers will. But based on "CQ" , I'll certainly be keeping an eye out for his next projects..... The extras on this DVD are very unique & watchable. In closing, "CQ" is a really fun, well-written, well-directed film and my advice is that you buy it. お気に入りの記事を「いいね!」で応援しよう
