Get Blown back for Wild Wild..
Classic Drug Flick Johnny Depp and Penelope Cruz, who could ask for more This movie is a biography of George Jung - the man who almost singel handedly brought the cocaine trade to America. To me this movie shows how drug dealers aren't the bad people that they are stereotyped to be. And also it shows how they can come from completly normal backgrounds, George came from a little family in Boston, and he turned out to be a millionare. You see the start of his career, his luv, his jail time, his trouble at home, his new love, his family, his troubles, and everything else about him... In my personal opinion, this is an excellent movie. It has gr8 acting, and a gr8 cast, and most importantly a gr8 story. You realize that people George Jung aren't so bad and they have feelings and a lif eoutside of drugs. And it has a gr9 soundtrack. It was heartbreaking to see even a major drug lord deprived of the only person that mattered anything to him. As much as I hate to admit it, I sympathized with George Jung. I'm not sure if this was an intention of the plot or not, but I could not help it... 【Johnny Depp】Blow【Penilope Cruz】 Johhny Depp vehicle thriving on its star appeal... Now "Blow ", as I stated above, is not very original. The plot itself is more or less Xeroxed from numerous other films What makes "Blow " work is the acting. Most notably the acting by Johnny Depp. Depp gives a good performance as George Jung. He portrays Jung as a man who is neither purely good nor purely evil. Some critics have complained that the movie made Jung into a sympathetic character. I disagree. It showed that Jung was a man who did some bad things (and clearly would have done more)..... But was not inherently evil. The key scene that shows this occurs towards the end. Jung is now serving a 25-year prison sentence in a federal maximum-security prison (in both the film and in real life). His young daughter comes to visit. This scene drives the point home directly. Jung may have been a monster who sold drugs and turned millions of people into addicts. But he was not a soulless monster. That's what I think the movie is trying to do, show the life of Jung without making excuses for him or making him into a martyr. Jung is portrayed clearly as an antihero. The film's weakest link in the acting department is Penelope Cruz. Cruz is pretty to look at. But her character here comes off as shallow and annoying... Maybe that's how the character was in real life. But her constant screeching grated on my nerves after a while. There are also good performances by Curtis as Escobar and Paul Reubens (formerly Pee-Wee Herman) as a California dealer. I enjoyed the film "Blow " immensely and found the performances of Depp and Liotta to be outstanding. However, there are some parts that I find troubling as the movie unfolds. One major problem I had was how Jorge and Mirtha's relationship began. The way it was presented in the film it just doesn't seem plausible.. .. I got the idea that there was a lot more to it. This isn't a happy movie but it does provide you with the ability to feel empathy for the character that Johnny Depp portrays. I would highly recommend this movie to everyone over the age of 17.
