Intelligent Romance Par Excellence...
Cinematic Foreplay in the Highest Sense Although is a primary theme in this movie, "Possession " is too smart to be labeled as a "chick flick ." The romance occurs differently than in most movies. Rather than simply meet, click, and fall in , the lead characters (Gwyneth Paltrow and Aaron Eckhart ) become interested in each other through their collaboration on an historic literary mystery. The events around them bring the to them, through exploration and information. Yes, they still jump into bed a little too quickly, but the pace of the relationship seemed more reasonable than normal. The mystery portion of the film is also unusual. Most viewers (like myself) won't know anything about the story, so everything that happens is legitimately fresh and new. As Paltrow and Eckhart unravel the backstory, small twist after small twist is revealed, and these twists constantly maintain the interest of the audience. One side story is unnecessary and forgettable, but it isn't overly emphasized and can be easily ignored. This was a pleasant suprise to me. The acting was top notch, with Gwyneth Paltrow obviously standing out. The other characters were well-acted as well, although Christabelle Lamont's character looked suspiciously like Meryl Streep, but it was all good. The story, in my opinion, was extremely interesting !! It kept me on the edge of my seat and kept me wanting to find out more about the secretive affair. Jeremy Northam and Jennifer Ehle, however, succeeded admirably in their portrayal of Randolph Ash and Christobel Lamotte. The moment they first set eyes on each other you could see the trembling in Ash's face and the KNOWING in Christobel's when they realize that their fate has arrived. Jennifer Ehle seemed to completely capture the essence of Christobel I had imagined her mouth just so...a little tight, a little ironic. Their restrained, then released passion for each other was very well done...it made the movie worthwhile. 【Aaron Eckhart】 Possession 【Gwyneth Paltrow】 Passion Inspires Passion "Possession " is a story filled with romance and emotion about young academics learning about the life of an admired poet. Was the noted Henry Ash true to his wife, or did he have a secret The search leads to twists and turns in the revealed facts of their search, and developments in their own relationship. It plays out like a mystery story with one clue leading to another. One of the realities of life exposed by the story is that we often think we know more about someone than we really know. The film is beautifully filmed, acted, and directed. To those who have done such research, such as in history or even genealogy, the story is perhaps more believable than it may be to those who have not.. It is a story better appreciated by those who see love as an emotional and psychological relationship than by those who see it primarily as hormonal consequence and validation of reproductive function..... Technically, the film is very good. It looks gr8, whether in the vivid and lush countryside of England or the urban exteriors and interiors. Even when using basic fall and winter hues, "Possession " feels alive with color. The transitions between the parallel stories are efficient, effective, and enjoyable. Often a mere pan of the camera covers hundreds of years, smoothly switching between romance stories. Nothing is particularly ground-breaking, but director Neil LaBute uses established and little-used techniques perfectly. The script is solid as well. Although it does occasionally feel overly literary, that type of dialogue still works because of the style of the film. "Possession " is not without its faults, but it is also a very solid movie. The film combines the ease of modern day culture with the properness of a period piece drama. Emotions unleashed in period pieces are, I find, always more interesting, as the people of that time are typically supposed to be more restrained than those inhabiting the present. The characters of Ash and LaMotte are long dead, but we are able to catch a glimpse of their lives, and of their , and it perhaps touches upon a sad note that such intensity, such emotion, must one day go the way of all things. But for a brief time in the grand scheme of things, they were in love. That is what "Possession " so movingly uncovers. The cinematography was lovely, and the juxtapositions between the Victorian lovers and the modern academics was very well done. I particularly liked the moments when the camera panned in a continuous shot from the past to the present, and vice versa. This film is worth seeing , and if it makes people want to read the book after seeing it, all the better..... お気に入りの記事を「いいね!」で応援しよう
