Rise to the Occasion ???
Animation, ambiance, pacing plot, a fine children's horror flick. Tim Burton is well known for taking light, cheery tales and turning them on their head...or vice versa - taking dark, morbid situations and turning THEM on their head - witness The Nightmare Before Christmas and Edward Scissorhands. So you won't be surprised to discover he has done much the same in his most recent stop-motion masterpiece Corpse Bride. The Corpse Bride is loosely based on a Jewish folk tale from the 19th century, the story of a young man who is on his way to be wed. As he is walking through a forest that will lead him to his bride, he comes upon a stick poking out of the ground. As a joke, he reaches into his pocket, takes out the wedding ring that he will be placing on his fianc's finger in the upcoming ceremony, and puts it on the stick. Taking things even further, he performs the traditional wedding dance around the stick, which in the real world would mean that he is officially married. To his horror, the ground opens up around the stick and a rotting, skeletal corpse appears in full bridal regalia. She tells the lad that she expects full wifely privileges and demands that he recognize their wedding as the real thing. Aghast, the young man rushes to the village to ask the rabbis if this marriage will be ruled as official. Ultimately, the elders determine that the wedding is in fact a legal one ; however, since the dead have no claim on the living, the point is moot.. At this point, the young man's living fianc who has been standing by in utter dismay as the situation is discussed, comforts the dead woman and whispers, "May you rest in peace. I will live your dreams for you and we will not forget you." .. And so the Corpse Bride appeared to be happy and at harmony with the results, and the young, living bride and her new husband lived a long, joyous life.. And they never forgot the Corpse Bride, as the wife told the story to her children, and they told their children, and so on.... 【Caroline Thompson】Corpse Bride【Tim Burton】 Death was Never so Alive Tim Burton never fails to let me down whenever I get to see his movies. Tim Burton always does such a wonderful job with his movies, and he puts so much into making the movie. I have to admit though, when the movie was over, I found it to be a bit different than I had expected or hoped, especially the ending. Not in a bad way. I guess anyone who waits on a movie to come out for so long and builds up the anticipation will always be somewhat let down. Don't let me discourage you at all from seeing this movie, it was still Gr8 It has the same look as the Nightmare Before Christmas, and if you liked that movie you will also like this one. It is dark and dreary. It has odd looking people & monsters which could only be the works of Tim Burton. I've always said, you can always tell a Tim Burton film by the way it looks and the dark side that they always shows, even like Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. The acting was gr8 as well. Johnny Depp did an excellent job The animation was even better than the Nightmare Before Christmas. The way they did it was completely different in this movie. Like the others, it is also a type of musical. There are quite a few scenes that have the actors singing. Im not a fan of that, but it doesn't hurt this movie at all. Wow. What a fun film. The story, though simple, hooks the viewer in, and the technical wizardry is eye-boggling and mind boggling - all done with the type of stop-motion animation pioneered by Ray Harryhausen (who gets a name check in the film - the piano Victor and Victoria duet on is, according to the nameplate, a Harryhausen). It is visually bizarre yet wonderful, somewhat reminiscent of Gerald Scarfe's unique style of drawing, particularly in the people and animals - long of limb and thin of body (except those characters such as Victor's mother, who are meant to be fat ). There is big hair on show, and strange creatures (many of whom are dead ). Given Burton's penchant for confounding expectations, the underworld is a cheery and colourful place, whilst the Victorian(ish) world of the living is grey and dour. The movie had a pleasant ending, but was not the ending that I had hoped for. I guess that means the movie can be somewhat unpredictable (which is a good thing !! ). So if you haven't seen the movie, do so. It's definitely worth the money. If you are into the Tim Burton style of films, buy it! It will make a Gr8 Addition to the Collection. お気に入りの記事を「いいね!」で応援しよう
