Revenge of the Leftists !!!!!
Red Wine or White ??? "The Last Supper " poses an intriguing question. What if you had the chance to go back in time and kill Adolf Hitler before he rose to power? The film takes that question and fashions it's central premise around the idea that someone just as evil or dangerous as Adolf Hitler could be alive today. What do you do if you run across that person ? The film focuses on five liberal grad students who share a house. The students are Jude (Cameron Diaz), Pete (Ron Eldard), Paulie (Annabeth Gish), Marc (Jonathan Penner ), and Luke (Courtney B. Vance ). Every Sunday they invite someone to dinner for discussion. On one of these occasions, Pete brings Zach (Bill PAaxton) over for dinner. Zach is a redneck who fought in the Gulf War and is quite different than their usual dinner guest. At one point in the conversation, he shocks everyone with his casual pronouncement that "Hitler had the right idea ." His comments get worse and worse from then on, and leads to a violent encounter where Zach is killed. Instead of reporting this incident to authorities, they use the incident to ponder the above question. Figuring that Zach's death probably made the world a better place, they decide to seek out more extremists to invite over for dinner. The plan is to try and convince them to change their thinking, and if that doesn't work, then poison them. This leads to a series of dinner scenes that allow for celebrity cameos. Charles Durning does his best Jerry Falwell imitation as a fundamentalist preacher who proclaims that "Homosexuality is the disease, and AIDS is the cure ". Mark Harmon shows up as a misogynist who declares that most rape is exaggerated. Jason Alexander also has some fun as an anti-environmentalist. These are just a few of the colorful characters that show up in the many dinner scenes. 【Annabeth Gish】Last Supper【Cameron Diaz】 Arsenic and Old Lace with a Yuppie Twist !! This is a movie only bleeding-heart liberals and leftists (like me) will enjoy. It is black comedy, so be prepared to laugh about kidnappings and murder. This movie is not a study in realism, so don't rent or buy if you hate movies that "could never happen ". The underlying question this movie asks is - If someone's views on social issues are so extreme as to oppress other people, would our society be better off without them ??? The extreme example in the movie is Hitler. If you had the ability to go back in time and kill Hitler prior to the Holocaust, wouldn't the world be a better place It would be easy to say that this movie simplifies issues and glosses over important social commentary. But this movies aims to provoke discussion and debate about a very profound question - is the world better or worse for having people with a multitude of opinions about human rights This is a Gr8 movie for liberals because we have to really examine our own prejudices towards right-wing people. It's easy for us to laugh at folks like Rush Limbaugh and Ollie North, but do we really respect their right to live and express their opinions This movie will make you really think about that. The acting is great. Courtney B. Vance is a sinister character with gr8 lines. (My favorite line: "I say we bury the cracker and eat dessert." ) There are also some gr8 camera angles and beautiful shots in this film. I fell in with this movie because it made me look into my own political and personal philosophies. I identified with the characters in their belief that they needed to do something dramatic to make their political views known. What made this movie gr8 is the fact that their political voice came out in such a dramatic and obscene manner. People do not just go out and kill their political opponents in our society. Its absurd !!!!! I would suggest seeing this movie with a group of friends after a home-cooked dinner. Have some wine and be prepared for a lengthy but interesting debate when the movie is over. The Ending is Ambiguous enough to Make for a Heated Discussion !!!!! お気に入りの記事を「いいね!」で応援しよう
