Gattaca Looks Pretty "Valid" to me...
Genoism: taking discrimination to its full expression If ever the world would come to this...I'd be very sad. I already have some concerns about playing with genetics, but this movie brought them all back together at once. When I say a movie is my favorite movie ever , it generally lasts only until another movie has recaptured my affections. Over the last few years I have gotten hung up on a number of movies including Swingers, Go, Final Destination, the Beach and the Thomas Crown Affair. But when I am talking about movies that I love and that are truly amazing, "Gattaca " is always on that list. Your date of death. Your intelligence. Your probability of heart failure. Everything about your genetics is already known at the time of your birth. Throughout your life, all this information can be determined through examining a piece of DNA. A hair that fell stray, a cell from your handshake or off of something you came into contact with..... The story is about an average guy that does not have particular handicaps as we see would them today. In his time, his glasses and possible heart failure are handicaps so gr8 that he has no shot at choosing his career. His dream is to be part of an elite that designs space missions and than accomplishes them. Even though he has the mental capacities to do all of this, he still has to go trough the selection process. This procedure includes severe physical tests which he most certainly will not be able to pass. He trains and trains, but he will never meet the requirements. He is a part of the lower class, whose parents did not procreate with the help of a genetician. 【Uma Thurman】Gattaca【Ethan Hawke】 A Sci-Fi without Ticked Off Aliens or Plasma Guns Vincent (Ethan Hawke) was born by natural birth, he didn't get any of the perks that genetically altered children get. He was thought of as a waste of space and chronically ill. He gets a younger brother Anton, who his parents seem to favor. Vincent always seems to be competing with Anton. One day he wins a swimming match of chicken testing who can swim out the farthest before getting scared and turning back. That gives him the motivation to go out on his own and pursue the life he wants. Vincent wanders around getting odd jobs where he can, mainly janitorial work. People born from natural birth get all the unglamourous jobs that nobody wants. There's a law against discriminating against the genetically imperfect, but no one takes the laws seriously. They can always find out from a handshake, saliva on an application or a legal substance test could become their illegal peak at your future in the company. After all, why should they take the time to train someone for a job when they don't believe that you will meet their expectations. After realizing how close he was yet far away from his goal of space travel he takes drastic measures. He hires someone to help him transform to look more like Jerome Marrow (Jude Law). He takes on his identity so he seems as though he is genetically perfect when he really isn't. He becomes a borrowed ladder a relatively and detested segment of society. A person who refuses to play the hand they were dealt. Vincent meets Irene (Uma Thurman) and is fascinated by her. They go out on a couple of dates and they fall in love. All his life he wanted to get off earth and right before he left he found a reason to stay, her. I've wanted to get out of western New York my entire life, now that I'm closer to being able to get out I have found a reason to stay, my boyfriend. It is a gr8 example of how we don't know what we are capable of doing. Humans can do practically anything that their passionate about as long as they are determined and put their mind on succeeding. There is no gene for the human spirit. People can not be altered to gain motivation or passion to succeed with what they want to do with their lives. Genetic perfection ruined their lives. Jerome attempts suicide by stepping out in front of a car , he finally succeeds by jumping into a incinerator at the end of the movie. Vincent hated earth so much that he schemes and plots a way to leave by going on a space mission. Irene was miserable with her life and lonely. Everyone seemed like they were trying to live up to a goal or an idea, constantly trying to achieve perfection in their lives. No one really seemed happy with their life. Gattaca is a Gr8 drama. I really liked the message that Gattaca displays. Gattaca is a drama about how characters strive to acheive and it is not to be mistaken for a science fiction movie. The science fiction elements in Gattaca are not significant. The movie is sadly not a harbinger of things to come. The traditionally middle class obsession with laziness, retail outlet stores (T.J. Max et al.), aluminum siding, irrational thought process, and outdoor plastic furniture pervades logical reasoning and smothers all hope for a culturally rich future. Give up hope...but consider doing what i intend to... When I get out of here I'm headed to the Cayman Islands to grow tomatoes...If you liked Gattaca and my other epinions...chances are I'll see you there !!!!! お気に入りの記事を「いいね!」で応援しよう
