Carrot in a Plaid Suitcase...
This is one WACKY movie!!!!! I'm thinking to myself, "Barbra Streisand ? Ughhh ." , so Im not a Streisand fan. Whatever. I do this movie however and I do like her performance here. Well, not just Streisand's performance is excellent, every other actor in the film fulfills his or her role completely. I saw the film that "What's Up, Doc? (1972) " is based upon. It is the classic with Cary Grant and Katherine Hepburn called "Bringing Up, Baby"(1938) " and it doesn't have as many laughs and thrills as "What's up, Doc? " Plus, I really think that Hepburn and Grant were utterly silly and ridiculous, whereas O'Neal and Streisand are seriously silly. Whenever a person is serious and, at the same time, silly, there is bound to be a comic situation. Here, the entire film is a comic situation. The jokes look real and innovative and every scene is appealing and interesting. The set-up of the story tests your belief. Honestly, what is the likelihood of four different people, carrying identical-looking bags, staying at the same hotel, on the same floor? You don't have to be a mathematician to realize: not very much. It happens here and I went along with it completely. The plot might be a bit confusing for some because, if you don't pay attention to the bags, you won't be able to follow the story. I Ryan O'Neal's character. He represents what I meant when I said about actors being seriously silly. In one scene, Howard returns to his hotel room, after the convention and finds Judy in his bath tub.. In order to prevent Eunice from seeing Judy, Howard makes her hide on the balcony.. In the ensuing search, Eunice looks for Judy in every inch of Howard's apartment, except the balcony.. However, Judy is unable to stand out in the cold any longer, so she attempts to reenter the room by knocking on the window.. Howard notices immediately and turns up the volume of television to an unbearably high volume, breaking the volume knob.. Eunice commands him to lower it, but Howard cannot.. She then forces him pull the cable out; he does, setting the entire room ablaze. Judy enters the room and makes a crack at Eunice's expense..... One of my favorite parts of the movie is the chase sequence. Film buffs go on and on about how much they the chase in "Bullitt ". I like the one here better. I think it has more action and is much more interesting to watch. The best comes at the end when all of the characters are rounded and put in the court room for sentencing. I think its one of the funniest scenes in the entire movie. 【Barbra Streisand】What's Up Doc?【Ryan O'Neal】 "That's a Person Named Eunice?" Well, let me start by saying that they don't make them like this anymore, and that is a real pity. This movie is hilarious with sight gags, verbal gags, chase scenes, a packed courtroom, a burned hotel room, a Chinese dragon, costumes, thugs, musicians, government papers, espionage, diamond thieves, a really strange Hungarian guy named Hugh (pronounced "YOU"), and 4 identical travel cases. I adore Barbra Streisand, but I have to say that this is one of my favorite movies of all time. The element of comedy really becomes Ms. Streisand, and the ensemble cast assembled by Peter Bogdanovich is absolutely wonderful. This movie was the first one for the irrepressible Madeline Khan (Eunice Burns ), and Ryan O'Neal (Howard Bannister ) plays a repressed musicalogist to the hilt. Barbra Streisand plays the hapless, jinx Judy Bernley. Judy is very intelligent, but also very single-minded. She is determined to get her college degree (because her father wants her to ), but in between accidents at various institutions of higher education, Judy sees Howard and is taken by him. She makes incredible overtures toward Howard, calls him Steve, rips his jacket, takes over his hotel room , helps to burn it and all of his clothes, and pretends she is his fiance, Eunice Burns (Judy calls herself "Burnsey" ). Howard's real fiance gets a little distressed at this, and cannot understand what is going on and why Howard is acting strange and everyone says that she is NOT Eunice Burns. Howard is in town to attempt to win a grant from the Larrabee Foundation for his study of the music of igneous rock formations. Judy turns Howard's life upside down, inside out, and backwards. In the middle of this chaos is the sub-plot involving the 4 identical traveling cases, 1 owned by Judy, 1 carries Howard's rocks, 1 has stolen government papers, and the last case has a fortune in diamonds owned by a millionairess. Well, somebody is trying to steal the diamonds and a government agent is attempting to retrieve the stolen documents.. They steal the wrong cases and everyone's cases get mixed up which only adds to the confusion, in the middle of which are Judy and Howard.. When the cases are revealed, there is a hilarious fight scene followed by an equally amusing chase scene after Judy and Howard take off with all of the cases.. Everyone winds up in San Francisco Bay, and then in court.. I can attempt to further explain this movie, but it would take me all day..... This is a movie that you have to see to truly understand. Then you have to watch it again to make sure you got it right. The chemistry between Streisand and O'Neal is hard to miss (this was when they started dating ), and it really adds to the overall cohesiveness of the movie. Watch this movie. It is definitely worth it. And keep an eye out for that last zinger by Streisand at the end. There are lines from this movie that crept into our family's language and always lighten our mood when one of us says them. "Im Hugh." "What's he say? I am You?" "Make him stop saying that!" and "What are you doing with Howard Bannister's rocks?!" are just some of the lines we never tire of. I recommend this movie as one that can be viewed and enjoyed by children and adults alike. Viewing it would make a gr8 evening for some happy family time together. If you love comedy and action, definitely watch this movie. It is a classic. If you like this movie, you might like these others : Paper Moon, Harry and Tonto, Raiders of the Lost Ark, Cactus Flower, Cat Ballou, The Bachelor and the Bobby-Soxer, A Fish Called Wanda, Cabaret. お気に入りの記事を「いいね!」で応援しよう
