Dark Comedy with Gr8 Actors, Unbelievably a True Story..
This movie is so unbelievable that it is based on a true story
The real story is about a wife who tries to murder her cheating husband in Allentown, Pennsylvania.
She botches the job, not once, not twice, not three or even four times, but five.
A story like this is just to good for Hollywood to pass up, it has to be made into a movie, right?

The story line is about an Italian immigrant, Joey Boca(played by Kevin Kline) and his wife, a second generation Yugoslavian woman named Rosalie, (played by Tracey Ullman).. Rosalie Boca (Tracey Ullman)is a hard-working and devoted wife, in denial about her husband's philandering until she sees it for herself, at which point she goes into shock.. In order to save women of the world from her heartbreaker husband, she decides to put him out of her misery..
, maybe she's a little bitter, too.. But killing Joey Boca turns out to be easier said than done.. The plan is not so easy to execute, and neither is her husband.. In her attempt to rid the world of the scum that is Joey, Rosalie ends up enlisting the aid of her mother (Joan Plowright), of the busboy from her husband's restaurant (River Phoenix), and of a couple of drug addicts (William Hurt and Keanu Reeves)....

Of course, this couple doesn't live in Pennsylvania, but in Tacoma, Washington.
Joey and his wife own a pizzeria in downtown Tacoma, as well as several apartments nearby.
They live with their two children and Rosalie's widowed mother, Nadja (played by Joan Plowright ).
Devo (played by River Phoenix )is a young, eclectic, and mystical young man who works in the pizzeria and has a not-so-secret crush on Rosalie.
Devo suspects that Joey is cheating on his wife , as he witnesses the man making frequent visits to his apartment building to "fix the plumbing ."
The apartments are full of young, single and beautiful ladies that call the pizzeria constantly with fix-it problems.
Rosalie believes her husband if faithful, but being Italian, he likes to look, no harm in that, right
When she runs into her husband at the library , who is not there to check out a book, but a young lady instead, she becomes so angry that she and her mother decide the man is better off dead.
Ullman and Kline are just Great.
Plowright, and her broken English, is simply hilarious.
River Phoenix is equally as funny and Hurt and Reeves, as the burned out hired killers (cheap too I might add ) are funnier than funny.

"I Love You to Death " is based on a true story, which is always stranger than fiction.
Kevin Kline portrays the cheating husband, Joey Boca and Tracey Ullman portrays the fed up wife, Rosalie Boca.
With the encouragement of her mother (Joan Plowright ) she decides to kill Joey for his cheating ways.
Rosalie enlists the help of a busboy who is infatuated with her, River Phoenix, who in turn enlists two of the most incompetent hired assassins , William Hurt and Keanu Reeves.
After poisoning, guns, and knocks in the head, Joey Boca seems to be immortal !!
This dark comedy will have you rolling in the floor.
I place this this film in the category of "Raising Arizona " when it comes to laughs.

For the most part, this dark comedy is embarrassingly amusing in it's shocking absurdity, but it gets slow in places; namely, when the audience must wait out the drug-induced stupor of the hit-men (Hurt and Reeves).
An honest mistake is funny, stupidity is dull.
This movie was originally rated "R " by the Motion Picture Association.
While the themes of infidelity and murder do require parental discretion, the violence is not terribly gory.
The acting by the all-star cast is rich, though the slow parts seem hammy.
The ending is simply unbelievable.
I Would never have guessed it was based on a true story.
I absolutely this comedy.
It has a good plot and is very funny.
The movie is so simply complex and bizarre that the viewer just have to laugh.
Of course, Kevin Kline and Tracey Ullman are so superbly funny in their roles as the Bocas.
The supporting cast are all so well suited to their roles that the movie is simply to fantastic to pass up.

The acting is fantastic.
The twists and turns of different situations will make you want more.
It is definitely not for everyone and especially not for kids.
The movie's main direction is Joey's murder and the language is also inappropriate for young ones.
Also I would not recommend it to anyone who has no interest in dark comedies, this one is very funny, but still deals with a murder issue and might not be suited for everyone.
Other then that, it is an incredible movie and I highly recommend it.
