○表現練習：「開祖」、「祖」、「恩人」、「預けられている」　の言い方

今日は、ある歴史関係の翻訳をしましたが
皆様にもご参照になる表現がありますので、ご紹介します：
やや内容を変えてお送りします：

A) 「祖」、「「開祖」の表現

開祖は、pioneer とか　あるいは、founder という言い方も
出来ます。founder という場合は、英英辞典では、
a person who established a school/hospital /organization と
ありますので、何らかの組織の創始者ですね

pioneer は、a person who does something first and so
make it possible or easier for others to do so later　ですね
つまり何か新規な事を始めその後に続く人も
継続できるようなものを作り出すことですね

1) 宮本武蔵は、二刀流の開祖です。
　
この場合、pioneer と founder のどちらを
使えばいいでしょうか？武蔵は、流派（組織）を興しましたので
Musashi was the founder of Nito-School. ですね

2）御木本幸吉翁は、真珠開発の祖です。

この場合は、別に流派などの組織ではありませんので、

Kokichi Mikimoto was the pioneer of pearl cultivation.ですね

但し、真珠の会社ミキモト社の創業者、という場合は、
組織になりますので、founder ですね
He was the founder of Mikimoto Co.,Ltd.

◎発展形

二刀流兵法の開祖である宮本武蔵は、
岡山県大原町の出生とされているが、実際は、
兵庫県米田町の生まれです、　という場合

出だしは、
Musashi Miyamoto, famous(/well-known) as the
founder of Nito-School, was actually born in Yoneda Town,
Hyogo Pref., even though some researchers had insisted
that he must have been born in Ohara Town, Okayama.

B) [人に預けられる」の表現

「赤穂浪士47名は、討入り後、それぞれ幕臣に預けられた」

主人公が人に預けられる＞という場合は、
モノ
Someone is put under (/in) the custody of 他の人、　となります：

例えば、上の赤穂浪士の場合ですと
The 47 samurais from Ako Clan were put in the custody
of different officials of Tokugawa Shogunate.

他の例として、「行方不明の少年は警察に保護されている」
The missing boy was now put in the custody of the authority.
ですね


Ｃ）　「綿々と引き継がれる」、の表現

「それ以来、武蔵の兵法は、現代剣道まで綿々と引き継がれている」

Since then, Musashi's swordsmanship has been handed down
unbrokenly to the current kendo.

unbrokenlyという副詞を遣えば良いですね
副詞をたくみに使える事が、英語の上達や
ビジネス英語に必要ですね


Ｄ）　恩人の表現

通常の言い方では、例えば、
「この人は命の恩人です」という場合
This is the man who saved my life.とか
I owe my life to him. といいます。また、

「梅田先生は私の英語人生の恩人です」という場合
Prof. Umeda taught me a lot of things about English.とか
Prof.Umeda inspired me to become an English interpreter.となります

次の場合、
「宮本武蔵は二刀流の開祖であるだけでなく、日本武道の
　大恩人である。」という場合、

We are greatly proud of Musashi not only as the pioneer
of Nito-School, but also the benefactor to Budo( the Way of
Japanese martial arts).となります。
