こんにちわ、皆様、ご相談です
I would like to request you to read the following episode
and give me your honest advice or comment on the following matter:
Yesterday I visited a local company in Iizuka.
The company manufactures lots of machines which make
special water containing a great amount of hydrogen.
Then, I met with its president, for the first time, who had
requested me to come over there on that day.
Before I met with him, I met his subordinate, a deputy-director, who asked me to translate some confidential agreements
and other types of documents.
I had already finished the translation work before I met with
the president.
This company will try to sell their machines internationally from
this year on. Saudi Arabia is one of their target countries.
In fact, the company has got a strong inquiry for their machines
from some Saudi Arabian business people.
The president and some other members of the company,
who are its outside directors, has been invited to
the Middle-East country for business talks with each other.
The president requested me to go to the country with them
as their interpreter. This is because the president cannot speak English and translate well what he will say in business meetings with Saudi Arabian business men.
He wants me to work and travel with him during a week or
so next month(March.)
Although I have worked as a professional interpreter for 13 years,
I have had only a few experiences in staying in other countries.
I didn't go to any other countries than Taiwan and Australia.
I had visited the two countries as the interpreter of my clients.
A very, very short stay in both cases.
My concern is that I haven't got used to visiting and staying in other country like Saudi Arabia. I have no idea what things are like in that country.
So this fact is now making me nervous and giving me some hesitation
to say Yes to the president.
国内の通訳出張であれば、喜んで張り切ってどこへでも行くのですけどね。
I would like to have your frank advice.
Probably many of you or almost all of you must have experienced
in staying or living in other countries for a much longer time than me.
Honestly speaking, I am very happy to have such a request,
but at the same time I am worrying about my poor overseas
experiences.
