HONEY PIE'S SILVER SHELTER

英国海軍の４２型駆逐艦が別名シェフィールド級駆逐艦と呼ばれるのは、
一番最初に建造された船が「シェフィールド」と名づけられたことによる、
のだそうだ。

駆逐艦シェフィールドは、フォークランド紛争に投入され、
アルゼンチン軍の対艦ミサイルＡＭ３９エグゾセ（フランス製）で撃沈された。
搭載していた対空ミサイルシーダートは高度６００ｍ以下のものを
迎撃することができず、低空で飛んでくるエグゾセには無効であったのに
加えて、４２型の構造上発電室機関室などの主要部分が集中している
艦の中央部に着弾したことにより、ダメージは連鎖し類焼、
曳航中に沈没した。
乗組員２８３名中２０名が戦没している。

シェフィールドのクルーが甲板で救助を待っている間、
唄っていたのが表題の曲。
モンティ・パイソンのエリック・アイドルが、
映画「 Life of Brian 」のエンディングのために書いたものだ。

妙なアーサー王熱のせいで昨今「ホーリー・グレイル」を観返し
・・・註釈：Monty Python and the Holy Grail という聖杯伝説を中心にした
　　　　　　コメディ映画、主役アーサー王はグレアム・チャプマン・・・
たら勢いがついて、続けてこれを観ちゃったのだ。

今年になってやっとＤＶＤになった作品。そのせいか、
コメンタリーが異様に充実していて嫌になっちゃう程で、買って損はない。
ショーンともアーサー王とも全然関係ないのに、
なぜか不思議とまたシェフィールドがからんで来てしまうところが、
感慨深いというか英国狭いというかこじつけもいいところというか。

曲自体は以前からＣＤで持っていてよく聴いていたのだが、
やっぱりこの映画の成り行きと、もんのすごい絵柄あってこその名曲、
ＤＶＤで聴くに限る。

ナイキかなんかのＣＭでも使われていたような気がする。
サッカーファンが贔屓のチームが負けた時に歌ったりもするらしい、
実際に聞いたことはないが。
あとグレアム・チャプマンのお葬式の時、残ったパイソンズみんなで、
この曲を歌ってたな（笑）

私は沈みゆく駆逐艦に乗り合わせたことはない、ましてや、
ゴルゴダの丘かその近辺やらで、なにかの間違いで磔にされたことなどないが、
万が一そんなことになった時は、この曲のホィッスルが頭の中に響くだろう。

も、どこまで背走すれば人生終わるんだよ？って苦汁漬けな状況でも、
この曲が鳴るおかげで脱力し、いくばくかの冷静さや軽さを取り戻せる。

なんと心強いことだろう！
