執事が証言　「ダイアナ元妃、本命はパキスタン系外科医だった」

１９８７年から約１０年間、ダイアナ元英皇太子妃の執事を務めたポール・バレル氏（４９）が１４日、ロンドン高等法院で開かれている死因審問で、元妃の本命は、交通事故で一緒に死亡したエジプト人大富豪ドディ・アルファイド氏でなく、以前から親密な関係だったパキスタン系心臓外科医ハスナト・カーン氏だったと証言した。

バレル氏はこの日の法廷で、元妃とアルファイド氏の婚約発表が間近だったとの見方を否定するとともに、元妃はアルファイド氏と出会うまでの約２年間、親密に交際していたカーン氏を「だれよりも愛しており、極秘に結婚まで考えていた」などと語った。アルファイド氏との交際については、カーン氏に見せつけ、冷めてしまったカーン氏の関心をひくためだったと証言した。両氏ともイスラム教徒だった。

バレル氏は、英王室による元妃謀殺説について「あり得ない」と明確に否定した。



Paul Burrell: Diana planned private marriage to Hasnat Khan

Paul Burrell, the former butler of the late Diana, Princess of Wales, has told a packed courtroom that the Princess was planning to marry her Muslim boyfriend.


The Princess' former servant and confidant said he had approached his local Catholic priest to ask about arranging a "private wedding" between Diana and Dr Hasnat Khan.


When asked to comment on the relationship, Mr Burrell said: "Well, the Princess said that this was her soulmate, this was the man she loved more then any other and it was a very deep spiritual relationship.
"I witnessed it at first hand and they were very much in love."

Mr Burrell's account differs crucially from that of Mohammed Fayed, who maintains that his son, Dodi, was planning to propose to the Princess when they died.

The royal aide dismissed claims that Dodi Fayed was "the one" for the Princess and suggested that she was using him to make Mr Khan jealous.

Mr Burrell said: "It was known in the family, in fact William and Harry were (familiar) with Dr Khan and met him on regular occasions in Kensington Palace. He was a regular fixture and fitting in the Palace."
