Rene Pape talks about his CD 2008About his CD Gods, Kings & Demons-opera AriasRP: They're for me real heroes nothing against tenors lovers and and buffones, but for me it's real heroes are Kings and Gods and Demons. Some are boring, some are weary frilling but my repertoire I quite love it. add life experiences from stagesYou start to sing a role first time you might be very young then later on you start to add your own life experiences , when you do the first time actually you have no experiences unless you start very late like a role of King Phillip or King Marke, I started quite early and so I was really- I had no experiences what i'm singin. Because I was young and those guys were middle or end of forty's. So I had to play like an actor you play later on you add life experiences from stages, life experiences from colleagues, from stage directors, cnductors, so then part like King Marke King Phillip they grow grow and grow untill they are around yeah, huge balls even in the air you knew, so it's never finished untill you stop singing, always go on steps further. and this is intersting part of our profession to be able to create the roles again and again all the time with different views with more experiences.About George LondonMany years ago I got gift from his widow. um- Nora London she gave me his CD uh of him George London: OF GODS AND DEMONS. I was listened to recording so many times I really started to like it and love it because of those many different levels of languages, different centuries of music, different repertoires of music, and then later on I started to think about if I have ever chance to make my own CD, I would love to make it for Nora of homages of George London and try to sing a part of his repertoire, it's something my own repertoire. which is happening right now, I'm very happy to do so , yeah like I said it's honour, I hope, Ms Nora London she can listen to the CD once (smiling)About MET audienceI'm singing at the MET since more than ten years and I would really love to be there, then I have, I guess, I have my own special audience there. They really love me and love what I do, it doesn't matter I'm singin German, Italian or French repertoire, um- Russian be there soon, it's a specal feeling to sing in New York. to sing aria are you finishing the night on stage and you can see and you can feel how much you have brought to the audience such as still likewise but what I wanted to do just want them to leave the opera house to think about what they had seen and to discuss to be happier and to forgot their problems for like a for you two or five hours, really relax them. and feeling is my feeling, laughing with me, crying with me, being upset with me, and when you are able as an artist when you able to do so, you have audience really behind you, of course in front of you, but with you then. They can feel that of course you have lots of success, and if you can sing as well also quite beauty? so then they really love you fantastic feeling for me as an artist to have the audiences shouting bravo and getting mad in a positive sense and it's just great and I don't want to miss that. (smiling)RusalkaIt's very intersting because they how to say it? Gobblin? let's say Hobbits or whatever, this guy in the water, Gods living under the water like Neptune, his name is Wotnik, the opera called Rusalka written by Dvorjak and I love this aria fantastic beautiful music and I sang it 21 years ago in a competition but I forgot all the words already so to sing in Czech language it's very beautiful but all the continents are so hard to pronounce, I was almost dying because I could feel my tongues those like having not going somewhere back losing them, whatever it was the nightmare. but it worked and found it lots of fun.About Rubinstein DemonTo be demon role is not easy because I have ever sung it on a rare piece, but it was easier to sing demon because I had 'cause I sang Boris before, I knew about the language, I can read the language, I can read to Cyrillic language, and I had the good coach, and it's very interesting opera, demon it's not often played, let say, never played in our days and it's interesting story about the demon who is seducing the young girl, you successful and she dies in short version, and it's fantastic piece written by Rubinstein and I wish I hope it could be played more often but it's tricky not easy to sing you need lots singers to be cast, but this little side of recording things.
