如月の雪　Snow in February

我が家のあたりで雪が降るのは、近年ではごくたまのできごとですが、今朝はめずらしく雪景色、うっすら積もるほどになりました。It is rare to have snow in my area in recent years. This morning, however, it is snowing and we are enjoying the snow scene.梅の花も雪に濡れて、凍てついたかのよう、えも言われぬ透明感です。Plum blossoms are wet in snow and almost frozen to display such a transparent beauty.山茶花も雪をかぶって。。。　Camellia sasanqua is, also, covered with snow...午後にはおそらく、雪は雨に変わるでしょう。The snow will probably turn to rain in the the afternoon.February 2011 / Nishinomiya, Hyogo

笛吹菩薩と８本脚の蝶　Butterfly with eight legs

３月末、初春の奈良に遊びに行きました。At the end of March, I visited Nara to enjoy the old city in early spring.浮身堂を見ながらお弁当を食べて．．♪We had lunch enjoying the view of Ukimido hall (floating temple hall).春日大社の釣灯籠。一基が車一台分ほどのお値段だとか！？！Famous lanterns at Kasuga Taisha (Kasuga Grand Shrine). One lantern costs as much as a car!?!二月堂から続く細い下り道と古い土塀。 An old mud wall along a narrow path coming down from Nigatsu-do.東大寺と桜。平日でしたが、やっぱり人は多いですね。Todaiji temple and a cherry tree. Though a weekday, there were a lot of people.いつまでも肌寒い春でしたが、やはり晴れた日は春らしい趣きです。We had rather a cold spring, but it was lovely on a sunny day.大仏殿前の金銅八角燈籠の一面では、菩薩が横笛を吹いていました。On one side of the bronze Octagonal Lantern, a Bosatsu (Goddess of Mercy) was playing the flute.そしてとってもビックリ！８本脚のチョウチョを発見！　大仏の前に飾られた青銅の蓮の鉢にとまっていました。And, to my great surprise, I found butterflies with 8 legs! 　They were perching on a pot with lotus flowers in front of the Big Buddha, made of bronze.March 2010 / Nara

十日戎　Toka Ebisu

十日戎の最終日、えべっさんの総本山、西宮戎神社に行ってきました。I visited Nishinomiya Shrine, Ebessan, on the last day of the three-day-festival Toka-Ebisu.正門。福男を決める競争のスタートラインです。毎年１０日の朝６時、開門と同時に、何千人もの男衆がここから本殿目指して駆け出します。Main gate. This is the starting line of the race in which the top three winners are recognised as the year's "Men of Fortune". Every year, on January 10th, thousands of men start running for the main hall at 6 am when the gate opens.ご本殿。すごい人です。Main hall. So crowded!名物、お供えの大マグロ。A giants tuna as an offering.福笹を売る福娘さんたち。Lucky girls selling good luck bamboo branches.どの道もお店と人で一杯です。Every street is filled with stalls and people.ちょっとした遊園地も出現します。お化け屋敷も日が暮れて来ると、なかなか迫力がありそうな（なさそうな・・）？　A traveling amusement park also appears. メリークリスマス♪　Merry Christmas!

紅葉　Autumn Leaves

ここ数ヶ月、忙しい日が続いていましたが、ふと鮮やかな紅葉に気づいたりして、それなりに秋を楽しみました。Even though my schedule was tight for the last few months, I enjoyed autumn when, for instance, I was attracted by the beautiful colour of leaves.もう冬ですね。皆さん、風邪などにお気をつけて．．。It's already winter now. 桜島噴火　Eruption of Sakurajima

鹿児島湾に沿って鹿児島市に向かうバスから、桜島がよく見えました。From the bus going to Kagoshima city along Kagoshima bay, we had a wonderful view of Sakurajima volcano.ふと気づくと、黒っぽい煙が上がっています。噴火した！？バスの中は一挙に興奮状態、みんなは写真を撮りまくっていました。We suddenly noticed that there was black smoke coming out. Erupted!? We all got excited and were busy taking photos.黒煙は見る間に西へと広がって行きます。The black smoke rapidly swelled towards the west.鹿児島市内では灰が降っていて、バスを降りる前に「灰が目に入ってもこすらないように」と運転手さんの注意を受けました。Ash was falling in the Kagoshima city, and before we got off the bus, the driver advised us not to rub our eyes if ash gets in. ハイビスカスも灰まみれです。Hibiscus was also covered by ash.August 2009 / Sakurajima, Kagoshima

散り初め　 Starting to Fall

夙川は桜の名所です。Shukugawa-river is well known for cherry blossoms.なんと見事な花吹雪♪　What a wonderful shower of cherry blossom!花びらが多くて、水面を覆うほどです。これを花筏と呼ぶんですね。So many petals that the water surface is covered. This is called Hana-Ikada or flower raft.April 2009 / 西宮 Nishinomiya Hyogo

岸和田城　Kishiwada Castle

小振りですが、凛々しいお城でした。Though not huge, it was a castle with dignified elegance.桜の季節はさぞ見事でしょうね。It must look lovely in cherry blossom season.城の前に石庭が広がっていました。A stone garden laid in front of the castle.天守閣から見た石庭。The stone garden viewed from the castle tower.最後に一目、石庭越しのお城です。We took a last look of the castle over the stone garden.February 2009 / 岸和田 Kishiwada Osaka

保津川下り　Hozugawa River Boat Ride

紅葉真っ盛りの秋の一日、舟で保津川を下ってきました。Hozugawa is famous for a boat trip down the river, which is especially popular in this season.朝９時過ぎ、舟の出る亀岡のあたりは、川面から立ち上る霧に包まれていました。Just after 9 in the morning, the area in Kameoka where the boat trip starts was covered with fog from the river.川を下るにつれ、だんだんと霧が晴れ、行く手に青空が見えてきました。Down the river, the fog gradually cleared and the blue sky appeared in view ahead.紅葉が艶やかです♪　How wonderful the autumn leaves are!お猿さんたちが登場♪　Hello, monkeys!舟が着くのは嵐山。すごい人！です。The boat arrived at Arashiyama. Wow, so many people!天龍寺にも寄ってみました。We also visited Tenryuji Temple.おまけ。嵐山の空を飛んでいた飛行船。「でも...なぜダイワハウスなんだ？ (@_@; 」Extra one; An airship was flying in the sky of Arashiyama. ....."Why Daiwa House, though?" 晩夏の白馬その２♪　Hakuba in Late Summer, 2

キアゲハは華麗ですね。An old world swallowtail ― aren't you gorgeous?ホオズキカメムシ？　小雨に濡れながら、アキノキリンソウにしがみついていました。A winter cherry bug(?) was clinging onto a goldenrod, wet in a drizzle.かわいらしい１センチほどの白い花は、ナンバンハコベ（南蛮繁縷）です。A plant with pretty white flowers with the size of 1 cm is a berry-bearing catchfly.夜、メスのカブトムシ♪がお宿に飛び込んできました。A female Japanese rhinoceros beetle flew into our house in the evening.August 2008 / Hakuba, Nagano

晩夏の白馬　Hakuba in Late Summer

８月末、稲刈りがもう間近です。At the end of August, the rice should be harvested soon.稲穂でキチョウが一休み。A large grass yellow resting on a ripe rice ear.群生する山蕗。美味だろうな～♪　Edible wild Japanese butterbur was growing gregariously.真っ赤に色づいたガマズミの実は、お酒にもできるそうです。Linden viburnum berries were scarlet red. 桜島　Sakurajima

霧島からは遠くに桜島が見えました。Mt. Sakurajima was seen in the distance from Kirishima.朝日の中の桜島。Mt. Sakurajima in the morning sunshine.夕暮れどき。In the twilight.鹿児島港から望む桜島。Mt. Sakurajima from Kagoshima port.桜島は日本を代表する活火山の一つで、しばしば噴火を繰り返しています。地元の人たちは慣れているとのことでしたが、その雄姿には、畏敬の念を感じずにはおれませんでした。Mt. Sakurajima, one of the major active volcanoes in Japan, erupts rather often. 初秋　Early Autumn

霧島のコテージ村　Cottage Village in Kirishima

霧島の国民休暇村にはコテージの集落があって、コテージにはバッハ、ベートーベン、シューベルトと、音楽家の名前がつけられています。There is a cottage village in Kirishima. Cottages are named after great masters such as Bach, Beethoven and Schubert.コテージのいくつかは、霧島の音楽祭マスタークラスの会場になっていました。左手に見えているコテージで開かれていたのは、ヴァイオリン・クラスです。In some cottages, master classes were being held as part of the Kirishima Music Festival. The cottage on the left was a venue of a violin class.こちらはフルート・クラスのコテージです。受講生は希望者から選抜された若い音楽家たちですが、レッスンは一般にも公開され、登録すれば誰でも聴講することができます。In this cottage, a flute class was going on. Students in the two-week course were young musicians who had been selected from applicants. The lessons were also open to the public, and anybody could register to attend the lesson. コテージから坂を下ると川が流れていました。７月の豪雨の直後で、水量が増しています。There ran a river down a slope from the cottages. 緑豊かな霧島　Kirishima, Rich in Trees

霧島には緑がいっぱい。Kirishima is a countryside rich in trees.新しいすてきな音楽ホールがあるのですが、その裏手にも、自然林を生かした公園が広がっています。There is a new, wonderful music hall, and behind the hall, there expands a park with naturally grown trees.ホール楽屋口に通じる森の小径。A forest path leading to the back door entrance of the hall. ホールの内部。もうじき開演です。Inside the hall. 霧島温泉の露天風呂　Open-Air Spa in Kirishima

宿泊したホテルの露天風呂。文字通りの露天、自然林の中のお風呂です。This is an open-air spa at the hotel I stayed. It is set literally outdoors, among naturally grown trees.ゆったり浸って見上げれば、木々の枝の間に小鳥や虫たちの姿も見られ、そして抜けるように青い空・・。When you soak yourself in hot water in a relaxed mood and look up, you can see birds and insects among the branches, and such a clear blue sky ...外は少し急な斜面になっていて、下に遊歩道があるのですが、こちらから見てもここがお風呂とはちょっと気づきません。The bath is located at the top of a slope and there is a walking trail below, but it is not noticeable from this side that there is a bath.2006年盛夏　鹿児島県霧島　その２Mid-summer 2006, Kirhishima, Kagoshima, No.2

真夏の霧島温泉郷　Kirishima Spa in Mid-summer

霧の上に島が浮んでるように見える山々を「霧島」と呼んだことから、霧島という名になったという説があるそうです。霧の多い地域です。"Kirishima" means "Islands of Fog" and it is said that the area was named after mountains which looked like islands floating on the sea of fog. They have much fog in this area.ホテルから麓方向を見た風景。早朝はよく濃い霧が立ちこめていました。This is a scenery from hotel in the direction of base of mountains. 御堂筋の銀杏並木　Gingko trees in Midosuji Street

大阪御堂筋は銀杏並木で有名です。この季節、木は黄金色の銀杏をたわわに実らせます。Midosuji-street, one of the main streets in central Osaka, is lined with gingko trees. In this season, the trees are loaded with gold coloured gingko nuts.October 2006　大阪 / Osaka

中綱湖の晩夏　Late summer at Lake Nakatsuna

中綱湖の横手には、小さな農業用水池があって、睡蓮が満開でした。In a small agricultural reservoir next to Lake Nakatsuna, water lily flowers were in bloom.稲穂が垂れはじめた田んぼの横には、身じろぎもせず釣りにいそしむ人の姿が・・・おっとぉ、案山子でした！At the side of a rice field, where ears of rice were beginning to bow, a guy was fishing, standing statue-still - - - Oops, it was a scarecrow!August 2006　信州白馬 / Hakuba, Nagano

高原の秋は早いですね。８月下旬の白馬はすでに秋の色合いでした。Autumn comes early in highlands. Hakuba was already showing autumn colour in late August.ススキの群落。A community of Japanese silver grass, Miscanthus sinensis.穂からたくさんぶら下がっている小さいものは、ススキの花です。Tiny things hanging down from the ear are the flowers of Japanese silver grass.萩満開。Japanese bush clover, one of the representative autumn flowers in Japan, in full bloom.August 2006　信州白馬 / Hakuba, Nagano

初秋‥大阪にて / Early Autumn, Osaka

関西の下界はとても暑かったです。９月も半ばに入って、ようやく日中の日差しが弛んできました。It was HOT in lowlands in Kanasai area. The summer sunshine didn’t show any sign of weakening until the mid-September.少し咲き始めた萩の花。Japanese bush clover is coming into bloom.秋の先触れ、ツクツクホウシ。A cicada, Meimuna opalifera, is singing his unique song to announce that autumn is about to arrive.公園の道ばたで、ブドウを小さくしたような実が色づいていました。Berries, looked like small grapes, were changing colour by the wayside in a park.September 2006, 北千里 / Kita-Senri, Osaka
