hey all,
how are you guys doing? it's been hectic working on my research projects and other school stuff. the thing i really like though is tutoring in biochem lab. the course is well designed and pretty hard core only for biochem folks. i usually spend at least 6 hours a week to aid them by instructing experiments. so far, we went over preparations for experiments (making specific buffers, etc), uses and characteristics of protein assays (w/ shimazu!), enzyme kinetics, and so forth. all of those is not that bad as long as they know why they are taking a particular step (like why ph9 in stead of ph 8), what a data means, or basically how they read results they got. for instance, they are surely required to be capable for determining pka's/concentrations of unknown sample (likely to be buffer since it is cheap), enzyme activities depending on ph and presence of inhibitors (sp act, turn over number, and something like that), etc by just running assays sometimes following their own protocols. they are also supposed to understand how those technique work (ex. bradford reagent detects hydrophobic residues, why they absorve such a particular wavelength of light, or more simply under what sorts of conditions beer's law obeys). sometimes, those stuff can get even biochem folks when lab manuals consist of 20-30 ppgs just for concept info. however, the prof asked me to run a review session, which is normally supposed to be done by grad students. ah...huh, now it is getting more complicated and overloading. i gotta go to every single lecture and be prepared to answer whatever those folks come up with. it is even hard just to stand in the front and talk as the prof does. those are at least biochem people while some of them are very brilliant. then i have no clew why he put me in such a spot....i will do my best though. anyway, my gel is about done, so i'm gonna go back to take care of it. i hope all has a sweet night/day. cloud nine お気に入りの記事を「いいね!」で応援しよう
