This week’s vignette “Expat Lifestyle” reminds me of my 20’s.
Soon after we got married, my husband was announced business assignments in New Jersey or Hong Kong unofficially. If he had taken on either of the assignments, our case would have been one of the typical examples that overseas postings fell by the wayside because of family problems. At that time, I wasn’t interested in learning new languages at all, so I would have been lonely and housebound; most of the time I would have stayed home and mope. In fact, as I couldn’t think of going overseas with no clue to the future while giving up my own career, I immediately said to my husband, “I’m so sorry I will not be able to go there with you.” In companies, refusing business assignments meant giving up career advancement. However, as for my husband, it was the right decision. Now, he is paid to study things he is interested in! I realize how much I have changed. Now, I have been enjoying learning English and interacting with various new people. Fortunately for me, through learning English, I become a freewheeling middle-aged woman! お気に入りの記事を「いいね！」で応援しよう
