My second exploration started at a botanical garden. I took part in a free guided tour. The guide was an honest-looking man in his 60’s and not only explained about the plants in detail but also shared some interesting episodes of the country’s history with us. He never joked, but sometimes slightly smiled. Somehow, he reminded me of my father. I really enjoyed his guide and asked some questions. He answered cordially and courteously. The tour started with six participants, but only an old local man who had taken notes eagerly and I left to the end. The guide asked us, “Would you like to listen to some more stories?” Of course, we replied, “Yes!” Then, we enjoyed extra 30-munite tour. To show my appreciation, I gave the guide and the old man very Japanese golden book-marks. I was glad that both of them said to me, “I would like to go to Japan someday.” After talking about Japan for a while, we said goodbye. Then, I headed for a street famous for its antique shops by bus. The street was fantastic. As the antiques looked quite expensive, I just peeped in through windows. I forgot the passing of time at a chocolate shop, a book shop and a toy shop. They were small but cozy and unique. Especially, all the chocolate cakes were irresistible; it was hard for me to decide which ones to buy. I also bought some picture books and puppets for my pupils. On the street, a young mother was approaching me while wheeling a baby buggy. The baby-girl was so cute that I admired her. The baby was playing with her sock and dropped it, but the mother didn’t notice it. I picked it up and stopped the mother. As I handed the sock, she said, “Thank you. She is always playing her socks.” Then, she asked me, “How do you say ‘thank you’ in Japanese?” and thanked me again in my language, “Arigato.” I was impressed by her warmhearted attitude. I’m sure the baby-girl will grow like her mother. I’m really happy to come across such a mother and daughter. Anyway, the chocolate cakes were marvelous! I decided to go to the chocolate shop once more before going back to Japan! お気に入りの記事を「いいね!」で応援しよう
