It has been seven months since my husband left for his destination as a visiting scholar. He says he has become able to speak English more naturally than before, adding it doesn’t mean his ability to use English has improved very much, but that he has become courageous enough to speak to anyone in various situations. Anyway, it is his first positive remark about his English. Good for him!
As I know my husband eagerly wants to talk with me in Japanese now, I asked him to talk with me in English after coming back to Japan. At first, he strongly refused because it would be unnatural. However, I didn’t give up convincing him and came up with a good idea! I asked him, “How about only while drinking?” He reluctantly accepted my offer! I’m looking forward to next April!! I am really glad that he has been concentrating on his studies. He sometimes asks me to read his papers and give him some feedback about them because good papers should be understandable for anyone including nonprofessional people like me.
