The written text and the lecture by a lecture deal with three ways computer have affected high school education. Both focus on the computational power of computers, the visualization capabilities of computers, and the value of teaching computer skills. The text stresses the positive effects of computers, but the professor stresses the negative effects.

The text and lecture conflict over benefits of the computational power of computer. The former contends that computers are beneficial because they allow students to make large calculations in a short amount of time. The latter, however, notes that students who always use a computer to carry out their calsulations fail to develop the ability to carry out estimates in their head.

Moreover, the two disagree on whether visualizing information has improved high school education. Text stresses that computers are beneficial because they allow students to present information graphically. The lecture contests this merit by noting that if information is always presented graphically, students fail to develop the ability to follow spoken and written arguments.

Finally, the two also disagree on the value of teaching computer skills as part of preparation for the students' lives after graduation. According to the text, teaching computer skills is important because computers are used widely in the university and the workplace. Accoding to the lecture, however, skills such as reading, writing, and calculating are more important than computer skills.
