Are you a superstitious person? As for me, I don't think so.

In Japan, we have a lot of superstitions like "You shouldn't cut your nails after evening" and "If you clean your toilet during your pregnancy, your baby girl becomes pretty."

I don't care about these things. I often cut my nails just before I go to bed because I don't have much time in day time. During my whole pregnant period of my daughter and son, my doctor kept me at absolute rest, so I didn't clean not only my toilet but the entire house. However, my kids are very pretty!

I asked some of my friends if they follow these things, they said, "Nonsense! Besides, they have no scietific reasons." I agree.

But I think we have one superstition that we, especially mothers, might follow. This one is exceptional, I suppose.
That is, "If you don't put away Hina dolls right after Doll Festival, your daughter will miss the chance to marry at her marriageable age."

In Japan, we have Doll Festival, or Girls Day, on March 3rd. We set up ornamental dolls which represent the Emperor and Empress's wedding, and celebrate this day with a wish that our daughter will grow up in good health.

After Doll Festival, I follow that superstition for my daughter. Of course, I know it has no scientific reason, but I just can't ignore this superstition. And all of my friends, they were mothers having daughters though, said they followed to it like me.

I think this is very interesting.
So, in this point, I can say I'm kind of a superstitious person.

「あなたは迷信深い人ですか」と聞かれたら、「いや、別に」と答える人がほとんどではないでしょうか。「夜はつめを切るな」、「妊娠中にトイレの掃除をすると生まれる女の子は美人になる」、どれも科学的根拠のないものばかりだし、いちいち従っていられるほど暇じゃないというものだってあるでしょう。

でもひとつだけ、特に女の子の母親だったら必ず従っているであろう迷信があります。それは「雛人形をさっさと片付けないと娘が婚期を逃す」というものです。私もすぐ片付けるし、私の友達もこれだけはやるといってました。
