wild bunch

Myar and I went to see an English show, called Wild Bunch. It was really great as usual. Myar loves the show and the performers too. Myar first saw the Wild Bunch when she was 2 years 3 months. The climax was a battle of the mighty magic mouse and the mean cat. The mouse beat the cat, but the cat rose from the death. Every time the mouse gave a finishing blow, the cat seemed dead, then came back to life with the theme music of Star Wars. It was so shocking. I'm sure that the scene burned into Myar's memory. This time, Myar especially enjoyed the interactive part of the show. Thursday book club

I created a book club system for Myar. She receives one book on every Thursday. I came up with this idea from the workshop I attended the other day. Myar doesn't have much interests in English books these days. I thought there were too many books on the shelves. So, I hid the books that Myar hasn't read yet. I prepared a nice green envelope, put a blank ゆうパック label on, filled in the label; Sender-Thursday Book Club, Receiver-Myar's name and address. For the first book I chose "Winne-the-Pooh". When she came back, she found the envelope and seemed very excited. I read her the book 4 times. new rule

When Myar got off the bus, she was tired and asked me a piggyback ride to home. She was fussy about changing clothes. It was chilly, but she wanted to put on a skirt, didn't like any pants. Fine. Then we went to the park and stayed about an hour. My bad feeling was right. She was too tired for a bath and threw a temper. Here's a new rule. growing up a bit

Myar was crying when getting off the bus. The teacher explained that she was dozing off and when she woke up she started crying, "Where's mommy?" How sweet! But Myar denied the teacher's story. Myar didn't let Daddy go to work for a while this morning at the front door, and was crying a lot. I told her that she was also going to kindergarten. She said "I wish it was off." seashell-digging

My father took us to a tideland on his boat to dig clams. My husband dug and showed Myar some clams, but she didn't pick them up. I dug some, but she wouldn't pick up. She seemed cranky somehow. fearless girl

We spent 3 days of GW at my parents' place, Aichi. My husband loves fishing and drinking, and so does my father. They get along very well. My father took us to the sea on his boat. Myar was excited getting on the boat. We told her not to move around on the boat, but she suddenly got up, walked around and tried to touch the water. Even though my husband was holding her arm, we were scared to death. She really was fearless. We were relieved when Myar got off the boat and stood on the ground. Then she ran back on the old pier half a meter less wide. I screamed! forest

My husband and I took Myar to a big park. When we were searching for a place for lunch, Myar said that this place was same as one of her picture books. I didn't get which book she was saying first, but it was "The bear went over the mountain" from CTP. Yes, the area we chose was in the forest. The trees looked the same as one of the pages. stinky feet

We invited our neighbors to a BBQ party. There were 8 adults and 5 children aged 2-4 in our small yard. It was a great opportunity for daddies to get to know each other. We had an exciting conversation, how stinky our husbands' feet were. My husbands' smell like natto and sour. One person said that her husbands' sometimes smell like a bandage which was on for a couple of days. Awful!! dance show

Myar danced on the stage! She is the youngest in the group and it's hard to move like the other kids yet. But she danced cheerfully and said her name clearly in front of many people. I asked her "Did you feel pounding?"She said yes. I asked "In which part did you feel pounding?" She said "Eyes!" reading workshop

I took part in a workshop which focused on SSS for young learners. The presenter showed us her students' various kinds of works, which were related to their favorite book. One student made a photo book of the process of making pancakes. Each photo was just like the original page. He was holding the ingredients same as the book. Another student had an eye to the small book in his favorite story. One of the characters was holding the book, which was nothing to do with the story. So he created a real book of it. These ideas came from the students. How wonderful! They enjoyed the story world, used their imagination and created own work. So impressive. あ～、これを英語で説明するって難しい。つまり、お気に入りの本に関する作品を自由な形で表現するのだそうです。パンケーキの本の各ページと同じになるように、自分の家の台所で写真を撮って本を作った子、お気に入りの絵本の中で本を読んでいる人がいて、その本が何か気になり自分で作っちゃった子。すごい着眼力、想像力。楽しそう～！＜ぶるふぁいの英語＞停滞中＜Myarの英語＞忘れました、、

long day

Myar's regular school days started. She was excited taking her lunch box and ate all up including spinach. She came back around 4:00, had some snack, went to the park, fell asleep on the floor at 5:30. She cried at 10:00, had a banana, went back to sleep. one per customer

Every morning I check newspaper ads and decide which stores to go. It's easy to shop around by myself. I went to three stores in one hour this morning. It wouldn't go like that with Myar. She doesn't move from the snack sections so quickly and suddenly go exploring in the stores. tough questions

Before Myar started going to kindergarten, one of the teachers said to the new students to cheer them, "Please try to enjoy playing with new friends and teachers even though moms are not with you. Your moms will try to finish all the house choirs by the time you go back home!" Myar remembers her words and asks me every day. "Did you clean the house? Did you do the laundry? Did you study English?" Myar never knows if I lie, but I report to her; laundry-done, cleaning-skipped, study-some. 2nd day at kindergarten

Myar comes back at 1:12 if the bus is on schedule. Of course it doesn't go on schedule. There must be some or a lot of confusion when the kids get on and off. She came back 30 minutes late, then had lunch. She was still full of energy and went to the park. There, new kindergarteners were playing and moms talked about how their kids have been doing. I joined them and exchanged information. Although we have 5 new kindergarteners in the neighbor, they all go to different kindergartens. They'll get together with their own experience at the elementary school in three years. 1st day at kindergarten

It was the first day that Myar went to the kindergarten by bus. She had no trouble at all. When she saw the bus approaching, she looked excited and hurried to get on it with her friends. I had three hours of free time but time escaped me! I did a little bit of my English practice, then cooked lunch that Myar requested. She came back with a nice smile. grandparents' visit

My parents-in-law came to attend Myar's kindergarten ceremony. Myar became a kindergartener yesterday! She dressed in her school uniform and looked proud of herself. The cherry blossoms were in full bloom. The weather was nice. We all were happy for her. She enjoyed spending the weekend with her grandparents. She slept with them for the first time, not with me!Grandma took her to the park and Grandpa read her a book. And she got some gifts from them, which was a Disney princess castle. Also she got a Bell's yellow dress from her Aunt. She must be dreaming of being a princess tonight.

Tokyo Disneyland

It was Myar's first time to go there. She loves Disney princesses so much these days. I wanted her to see the parade, Princess procession. She was amazed at Snow White, Cinderella, Bell, Aurora...in beautiful dresses! First she was too shy to dance with the dancers but she went up and danced. Myar was in a good mood for the whole long day.私とダンナが行ったのはかれこれ十ウン年前。トゥーンタウンはもちろんスプラッシュマウンテンすらなかった時代さ、、。混んでるところ大嫌いなダンナがやっと連れて行ってくれました。Myarは「また行きたいなぁ」を連発。１年に１回くらいは夢の世界に行ってもいいよねぇ。

school uniform

Myar's school uniforms are ready. She wore the blouse and the skirt, and said 'No pants? My knees would hurt if I fall down.' I said 'Kindergarteners don't fall down easily.' I bought two boxes of adhesive bandages, Winnie-the-pooh and Disney princesses on them. She'll be okay.

homemade bread and rolls

I bought a ホームベーカリー the other day. It's so good to have just made bread in the morning. All I have to do is put all the ingredients into the bakery machine before going to bed. What a wonderful machine!! My neighbor got a ホームベーカリー at about the same time and another neighbor is a long time user. We enjoyed tasting our breads and made some rolls together.

baby from the US

One of my best friends, who is married to an American guy, is back with her baby for 3 weeks. I took Myar to see them all the way to 春日部. The baby was so adorable and sweet. Myar acted like a big sister and did ”いない　いない　べー” when the baby was starting to cry. I look forward to seeing them playing together in a couple of years.

birthday call to the US

Myar called Aunt Mary (my host mother) to say Happy Birthday. Unfortunately she wasn't home, so Myar and I left a message. Aunt Mary blew a kiss to Myar many times when we visited her. I sometimes give a blowing kiss to Myar, and she says 'America did that, right?' Aunt Mary equals America to Myar. She even doesn't know what America is yet. :)

another trial lesson

Myar took a trial lesson with a native English speaker. She was a guest at a class of 4 year olders. I was pretty surprised because the teacher was really good. He was good at handling little kids and seemed to have a clear picture of the whole curriculum.(当たり前だけど・・）　I took Myar to two other schools this month, but the teachers did some flush cards, colors, alphabets and singing songs. I thought 'See? That's what Japanese teachers and mothers can do.' But this teacher was different. The students have been building up their skills. I want my Myar's class to be like that.今日のイギリス人男性講師は、ココだったらMyarを通わせたいと初めて思わせてくれました。生徒さんたちは習い始めてちょうど１年、Myarが今からスタートしたら１年後にはこうなりますよ、というクラスを見せてくれた。４歳にしてフレーズのオウム返しではなく、自分のことを言ってる！テキストを１冊しっかり練習して身についているのがよくわかった。４月からはうちのサークルも未就園児グループと幼稚園児グループに分かれる。幼稚園グループには今日のクラスのようにずんずんと積み上げていってほしいなぁ。それには、、、。＜Myarのえいご＞テレビ：Winnie-the-Pooh、スーパー英語リアンビデオ：Disney's Magic English 2

dance class

Myar started taking dance lessons. The class is for age 3 to 7（年少～小１）! Myar is the youngest.. She can't dance yet, but is trying to move the same as the instructor and the big girls do. It's so funny and sweet. They will have a show in April. The instructor said that Myar will join the show and what she needs to do is just move or wiggle to the music. 春から年少さんなのでちょっと早いけどスタートさせてもらいました。基本はエアロビのクラス。Myarは一生懸命みんなのマネをして踊っています。いきなり４月に発表会ですが、ちびっこはとにかく動いていればOKなんだそうで、、。どうなることやら楽しみ～！

workshop

Even though it was snowing, I went to 丸の内丸善 for Marbles workshop with Myar. She enjoyed walking in the snow and taking a bus and trains. It took one and a half hours. Not long? but in the snow! The workshop was great. Masumi-sensei, who is the main performer of Wild Bunch, showed us how to play Peach Boy in class. It was a workshop but Myar was in the drama and was beating the demons. Great way to have kids in the English world.劇をやっていると自然にセリフを言いたくなるんですね。桃太郎だからストーリーは知ってるし、セリフが英語でも意味はわかってるし。シンプルなセリフが繰り返される効果、スゴイです。

nothing much

Myar went to bed early today. I have plenty of time tonight but there's nothing special to write. Well, I'll go back to the Auction. What I want is PS２太鼓の達人タタコン付き!＜Myarのえいご＞サークル参加Daddy Day Care/チャーリーと14人のナントカ（レンタルDVD）　Myarより私が見入った。メイシーちゃんの絵本２冊　英語･日本語両方で読んでいるのに「日本語で！」と怒る。リープパッドしまじろう＆Phonics　やはり５分で飽きる。答えのイラストの上にタッチしたつもりがどうもズレていて正解にならない。

time to restart?

It's too late to say Happy New Year. I've been away from this diary and have so many things to write. But just this one to restart. Myar went to the bathroom by herself for the first time today! She shut me out, said "Done!" a little while later and came out. I was so surprised because I was thinking to set a step for her to get on the toilet seat. But she climbed up on it somehow. Very impressed.こんなネタでやっと日記再開です。とは言っても今年も「書ける時に書く」ベースですが、、。New Year Resolutionもいろいろ考えたことは考えたけど、英語関係は４月にMyarが入園してから実行することにしました。まずは、朝、具だくさんの味噌汁を作る、突然の来客にも耐えうる居間（おかたづけ）　を心がけております。２番目はほんっとに難しい・・・。　そうそう、今日Myarと動物カードで遊んでみたら、単語を聞けばどの動物かわかるのに自分からは言えないことが判明。一昨日も絵本で色を聞いてみたらなんと「red」「green」が言えないっ。おいおい、うちのサークルの看板娘が困るよ！これまで英語で半分遊び・半分お勉強のようなことをしていなかったからな～。私が気が向いたときに英語で話しかけると、ある程度反応できるし、歌もよく歌うしで満足していたけど、「聞いてわかる」のと「自分の口からアウトプット」ではぜんぜん違うんだなぁ。ちと気合を入れねば。ただ、「rrrrrr」とヒントを出せば「red」、「g,g,g」と言えば「green」と出てきたのは良いことかな。＜Myarのえいご＞テレビ東京のディズニー番組　10分メリーポピンズ　60分しまじろうおやこえいご「動物カード」　30分リープパッド「Richard Scarry's Word　なんとか」　5分

snowy day

It was snowing when I woke up. I said to Myar "Snow! Snow!" like Froggy. (from Froggy Gets Dressed) Myar was excited and we went out. It was so cold! We just picked up the newspaper. After 10:00 o'clock, Myar put on her mittens, scarf, rain coat and rain boots, and walked to the super market with Daddy and me. The usual scenery was really different.

Christmas morning

Myar was still sleeping soundly at 8:00. I said "Look! A present under your pillow!" Myar jumped up and unwrapped it. She looked so happy and surprised. We went downstairs and opened all the presents under the Christmas tree, which were from Papa Santa and Mama Santa. Then we found that Santa Claus ate just one of the cookies and left its package. Myar was wondering where the other cookie went. She dashed to the stocking and found the cookie and more snacks in it!

Christmas cake

Myar and I made a cake! I tried to make a sponge cake several times, but every time the cake was like 羊羹. Probably I didn't beat the egg whites enough. This time I purchased an electric mixer. It did a great job. I should have bought it sooner. Myar seemed amazed the whole time, watching me separating the yolks from the whites and watching the changes of the egg whites' form. I can't say the cake was really successful but was much better than before. Myar enjoyed eating the fresh cream from the bowl while I was decorating the cake. I remembered that I did the same when I was little. Myar prepared cookies on the table for Santa Claus, then went to bed.

いいわけ日記

うーん、すっかり日記がストップしてしまいました。やっと延ばし延ばしにしていたホストファミリーへの手紙を仕上げたくらいなので英語日記はとてもとても・・・。サークルのクリスマス準備、年賀状、大掃除、帰省準備、etc。師走は忙しい～なんて言いながら何に時間を取られてるかって、それはオークション。今までやったことなかったんだけど見事にはまった。反省。

a letter to Santa

Myar wanted to buy a book of Kiki's delivery serves at a book store today. I said "Ask Santa. Why don't we write a letter to him?" She was up for it. We came back home and I gave her a letter pad and an envelope. I wrote the message and Myar draw Jiji, the black cat in the Kiki's story and signed on it. Her signature was just lines though. We put the envelope in our mailbox. I told Myar that Santa's staff would pick up later. I'm glad that Myar's Christmas present has been decided!３才のお誕生日に魔女の宅急便のDVDをプレゼントしたら見事にハマりました。Myarは１３才になったら飛ぶそうです。（笑）お夕飯のほうれん草を残そうとしたので、サンタさんがどこかから見てるよ～と脅したらちゃんと食べました。しばらくは「You better watch out♪」でいい子にしてそうだわ。

toeic result

I opened the envelope with my heart pounding a little. I got 940! I was really glad that I had decided to take the test. Probably it was the best timing after having worked with foreign staff for 4 years. I have to keep up my study.なんとか９００目指したいなと思っていたので予想以上の結果でした。もう受けるのやめとこ。その後書店に行ってTOEIC本の９００をターゲットにしているものをめくってみたら、やっぱり難しかったです。来年は新聞記事とか読むように心がけようかな。

celebration of Myar's growth

We went to the shrine to thank for Myar's growth and to pray for her health with my husband's parents. The shrine was where I prayed and asked(?) for an easy delivery. I thanked the safe delivery too. (I haven't showed my thanks for three years! It wasn't really easy...) Anyway we all had a great time with Myar on a warm autumn day.誕生日翌日は七五三。鎌倉の鶴が岡八幡宮へ行ってきました。ダンナ実家の近くで安産祈願をしてしまったためになかなか御礼にいけず、七五三まで３年も引き伸ばしてしまいました～。

Myar's birthday

She became three today. We had a promise that she would quite sacking thumb after blowing off the candles and eating the cake. She was sacking it until this evening, saying after the candles and cake. In fact, I doubted if she really could stop it and I was thinking another plan. When she got sleepy, she cried and cried. I had her hold a stuffed bear, which was one of the birthday presents, then she fell asleep. I was very much proud of her!やっと誕生日の日記をupできました。３歳になってから一週間、寝る時にじっと親指を見て我慢していたり、チュパチュパしたいーと泣いたりするけど、頑張ってます。眠っている時にはチュパチュパすることもあるけど、これは見て見ぬフリ。いいぞ、Myar！

english play group

I finally started an English play group at my house. Today was the first trial day. 5 pairs of mom & kid came and some more people are coming next week. I really would like to share a lot of fun with them.とうとう親子英語サークルを始めました。自宅でやるのか、友達を誘うのか全く別で募集するのか、いろいろ悩みましたが、えいやっ！　とにかくスタートしたのであとは進んでいくのみ。英語好き親子がどんどん増えるといいなぁ。

a kindergartener-to-be

My husband took a half day off to get in a line at the kindergarten. We thought 8:00 was early enough, but I became a little anxious and drove there at 6:00 and at 7:00 to check if there was a line to submit the application. Nobody was there yet though. My husband went there at 8:00. He was 36th already. Then, Myar and I took an interview. She replied to most of the questions, which was much better than I thought. I didn't know she loved bakeries. wild bunch

We saw Masumi-sensei 2 days in a row. The show was great as always. This time Myar sat in the center with her friend and was totally caught up in the show. The nightingale and the octopus must be in her dream tonight.

Eric and Masumi show

I told Myar that we were going to see Eric. Myar thought we were visiting Eric's house. When we got to the site, Myar said that Eric's house was nice. Well, it was a hall for any occasion. She remembered Masumi-sensei from Wild Bunch, and was really excited when she found Eric on the stage. The show was great. Myar learned the songs quickly. They were all simple and repeated many times. Myar sang and danced together. After the show, Myar got a balloon from Masumi-sensei and shook hands with Eric! On the way home, Myar told me that she needed to go to a bathroom, but there were only a few minutes for the train. I said "Do it in the diaper." Myar said "No!" We had to wait for 20 minutes for the next one. I know I should be pleased with her growth!!

digging sweet potatoes

Myar was amazed at the big sweet potatoes in the ground. She pulled them out and compared to her friends' potatoes. Everyone in the play group got over 3 kg. Moms discussed how we should cook them on the way back.

Halloween 3

Myar and I went to another Halloween party at an English school near our house. Myar wore a big pink plastic bag which I made holes for neck and sleeves. Also I drew some Halloween characters and Myar colored them and put them on the costume. Myar heard the Kamishibai, "Stellar the witch at Halloween night" for the third time. She loved Stellar and learned "What's the matter?" and "Don't cry." from the story.

Halloween 2

I did some Halloween activities with the kids at the English study & play group in Kawagoe. The kids loved trick or treating. They didn't say 'Trick or treat' in a big voice first, but after they understood that they could get something good to eat when they said that, their voice became louder. Very simple.

toeic

あーーー、疲れた。なんとTOEICってどこにもメモしちゃいけないのね。受験票に「解答用紙の所定の欄以外にメモするな」とあったから、解答用紙にメモ欄があるのかと思ってたアホな私。そんなぁ～、メモしなかったらダイアローグ前半なんて覚えてられませんっ！一瞬だけ覚えておく記憶術でも勉強しようかしら。それから、もうちっと英字新聞も読むようにしようと思いました。ボキャ貧を痛感したです、、。さー、明日からはまた発音と多読に取り組もうかな。その方が楽しいもーん。

mock test

I tried a mock test of TOEIC. I'm no longer able to concentrate for such a long time. I don't know why things came up in mind one after another like what for supper or where the typhoon was while I was doing the listening part. Besides, I couldn't remember the first half of the stories or the conversations. As I listened them, I felt 'Okay, I understood.' but the information that I just got was gone when I saw the questions. My memory is too short!!

eat my birthday?

I told Myar this morning that today was my birthday. Myar asked me 'Can I eat mommy's birthday?' meaning a birthday cake. She believes that somebody's birthdays are when she can eat a piece of cake, because she had a birthday party every month at the nursery while she was going there. We shared the cakes and she sang the birthday song many times.「お母さんのお誕生日食べていい？」と聞いてきたので笑ってしまった。Myarがお祝いしてくれたのは今年が初めて。去年はまだよく分かってなかったもんなー。

kindergarten

I think I decided on which kindergarten for Myar to go. I attended the briefing at one of the options. It wasn't just a briefing. The teachers and some of the kindergarteners performed on the stage to show us their typical day. The kids sang songs for morning and leaving really cheerfully, and showed what kind of activities they do and how they put away toys. They didn't hesitate at all even though about a hundred of people were watching. I want Myar to be like that. What impressed most was that the teachers' approach of child-care. They believe that the kids copy good habits if the teachers show good models. Wow, mom should be a good model in the first place.挨拶やお返事がしっかりできるようにします、というのではなく、職員がやっていれば子どもは真似しますから、とのこと。公園のママさんたちに聞いてみても、先生方がとにかくいいのよ～という評判。園庭が狭いし、教室も風通しが悪いし（冷房なし）・・・と思っていたけど、先生がいいのが一番。あとは入園できるかだわ～。

Halloween Party

Myar became a witch. I was going to put a pig nose but I didn't, because the other moms didn't wear any costume. (No fun!) Myar enjoyed a bit spooky atmosphere and making a ghost using a white balloon. She said that she wouldn't be scared of ghost any more except for KAONASHI.

email from my student

I got an email from my friend in the US. When I introduced Japanese culture and language at an elementary school in South Carolina, she was a 3rd grader. Now she is an university student and is taking Japanese classes. What I did in class was just hiragana & katakana and some greetings. I was so happy to hear that she has kept her interest in Japanese.一週間前の日記です、はい。

9th wedding anniversary

Wow, it's been 9 years. We got married after we had dated for 7 years. That means 16 years in total!! Hmmm, we got older. No, no I mean I'm very thankful to him being the best partner for a long time. So, I bought our favorite cakes. Myar asked me at the cake shop if it was because she had been a good girl. I couldn't say no,it was one of the reasons, and tried to explain about marriage. She said she wants to marry me, not daddy. How sweet!! I won him this time. Maybe she'll choose daddy in a couple of years, and then somebody else. At that point, how old are we gonna be?

at the zoo

My husband and I took Myar to Tobu Dobutsu Koen. This is her second time. When she went there last time, she started to cry at the first thing she saw because the big blue bird was spreading his huge wings and it scared her to death. This time she enjoyed watching the small animals to the big ones, even she held a chick and a rabbit in the small farm. Also she was able to try some rides. She got on the Ferris Wheel only last time. I took her a roller coaster, of course for little kids, she was grabbing my arm and said nothing. My husband said that her face was frozen. Sorry, Myar!おいおい、いつの日記だ、、。
