The clerk had been so kind to the elderly man that he left her his fortune. It was more than enough money for her to quit her job as a grocery store clerk and support her family in luxury. But she didn't do so. She kept working as usual.
It seems that Jeff couldn't understand why she had decided to keep working.

However, her decision is very understandable for me.

If I get rich, I'll also keep working like her. Perhaps I can't change my way of life so easily.
