今日聞いた英会話上級のZero in on the lesson のフレーズ。

make a difference は「違いを生む」という直訳がピッタリ来ることもあるが「重要である」という訳がピッタリ来るときも多い

平叙文で、difference の前にbigとかall the を付けて強調したり、
否定する時には、It makes no difference も使える

Examples

Getting just ten minutes of regular exercise everyday has made all the difference in my health.

It makes no difference to me whether you come with us or not.

Reading lots of books while you're a student will make a big difference in your future.

２．「時流に乗り遅れない，流行に遅れないでついていく，今時の感覚を持つ」。主として若い人が命令文で使うことが多い。
¶Get with it, Glen. You're behind the times.（グレン，今時の感覚でいきなよ。時代に遅れてるよ）
¶Get with it. Nobody bowls anymore. Tennis is the game nowadays.（時流に遅れるなよ。もうだれもボウリングなんかやっていない。今はテニスだよ）
